The GST Council has proposed that the electronic invoicing (e-invoice) system to be implemented for all taxpayers having a turnover of > 100 Cr from 1st April 2020.

Key Points
Supplier

  Registration of e-invoice of generation of IRN is the responsibility of the Supplier, who will be required to report the invoice details to e-invoice system, which in turn will generate a unique Invoice Reference Number (IRN).
  Supplier can upload the invoice details (with all mandatory fields as specified in e-invoice schema) in JSON format on IRP to generate a unique Invoice reference number (IRN)

IRP

  There will be one IRP in beginning (NIC) and others will be added later
  IRP would generate the IRN.
  IRP will digitally sign the invoice and generate QR code containing all the key information of the invoice
  IRP would respond with the signed invoice, IRN, QR code, Acknowledgement details to the Vendor
  Auto-share of the E-invoice with both Vendor and Customer based on the email address provided in the invoice
  IRP will perform duplication check of IRN

GST

  IRP will transmit the data (e-invoice with IRN details) to:
   - GSTN : ANX-1 and ANX-2 automatically updated
  - EWB system (NIC) Part A automatically generated. Part B is to be generated by the user itself

  On the 8 Mandatory Sections, there are a total of 33 Mandatory fields
  On the remaining 10 Optional Sections, there are a total of 17 Mandatory fields
